Controlled Assessment Worth 30% Year 10
This unit is designed to to provide candidates with an opportunity to carry out a practical investigation into a computing issue and engage them with computing in the real world.
Year 10 will be investigating LINUX and producing a report on their research.
Written Examination Worth 40% May'17
This is a theoretical unit which includes the following topics:

Fundamentals of computer systems, hardware, software, representation of data in computer systems, databases, computer communication and networking and algorithms and programming.
Controlled Assessment
Worth 30% Year 11
OCR will issue a range of assessment tasks each consisting of up to three sub tasks. The set of tasks within the controlled assessment will provide opportunities for the candidate to demonstrate practical ability to use the skills outlined in the specification for this unit.
In Year 11 Students will use Python to code a solution to a given problem.
Controlled Assessment Guidance
Both Units A452 and A453 are completed under controlled conditions. Students complete some of their work in LOW control (limited supervision) and the rest in MEDIUM control (informal supervision). Controlled Assessment work is not allowed to be taken home unless directed by the classroom teacher and only during LOW control. Controlled assessments are internally marked and moderated, all marks given to students are PROVISIONAL subject to OCR external moderation.
